First Wet Run Spectacular

Today we had a great crew show up at the site for an initial test-run of boat moves, including the two Jasons, Nicole, Dorothy, Mikeross, Derek, Luisa, Eleanor, Paige, Sarah R, Katelin, Suzanne, and Jada. We also found Caution Mike hiding in the bushes with a camera (he took these pictures).

We started the day with a discussion of the costumes. The grand finale costumes will be constructed of much sparkliness. And every team is responsible for their own pre-finale costumes. You can make them at home, or come to the shop Tuesday for our first costume-making night. Obviously the details of the meeting cannot be divulged. But in the future, we battle through dance and perhaps dragons.

This practice was supposed to be a dry run, and Nicole and Jason started by leading us through the intricacies of the plan. But, after becoming dizzy on land, it soon became clear that we needed to get our feet wet. We proceeded to get lost in the park for half an hour, but eventually found our way to the rental shop. No one could have predicted how well things went. It was a true team effort exploring the potentials of boat choreography. We're developing a system of boat roles: the captain and pilot, the handler, and the dancer(s). The team works together to execute the maneuvers, including: The Pair Spin, The Double-Reverse-Pair-Spin, The Group Spin, The Zipper, The Line-to-Line (most complicated, and most exciting), The Bump, and the Dancer Exchange. Its unbelievable how much you can do with these boats. And it was fantastic to be part of a crew of creative people who were already working together like a group of pros. Luckily we stayed completely sober, so there was no trouble getting any of our maneuvers perfected.
